Memphis Art Museum Set to Open in December 2026

The new Memphis Art Museum, designed by Herzog & de Meuron and scheduled to open in December 2026, represents a significant addition to the city’s cultural infrastructure. Set atop a reconstructed river bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, the building is conceived as a series of gallery pavilions embedded within the landscape. Its façade combines textured, earth-toned cladding inspired by the exposed clay of the riverbank with expansive glazed elevations that maximise natural light and frame views of the river, downtown Memphis and the museum’s central courtyard. The design establishes a strong visual and physical connection between the museum, the park and the waterfront, creating a distinctive new landmark for the city.
