205 North Quay Featured in The Architect’s Newspaper

205 North Quay in Brisbane, Australia, designed by REX, Hassell, and Richards & Spence, has been featured in The Architect’s Newspaper for its innovative façade design and climate-responsive approach. The 30-level commercial tower is wrapped in a copper-anodized aluminum shading system composed of large elliptical elements along its northwest and southeast elevations, complemented by extruded aluminum fins on the shorter façades. Carefully calibrated to the building’s orientation, the shading system reduces direct solar heat gain while maintaining a high glazing ratio, daylight levels, and views. The elliptical elements leverage their geometric rigidity to achieve efficient material use and enhanced solar performance, reducing solar transmission by 63 percent compared with an unshaded curtain wall.
