The repositioning of the former Sofitel Budapest Chain Bridge hotel, originally constructed in 1982 and located in the historic city center on the Pest bank of the Danube, transforms the building into a contemporary lifestyle hotel featuring 350 guest rooms, restaurants, wellness facilities, meeting rooms, and event spaces. The renovation preserves the original building mass, spatial organization, atrium, circulation system, and facade geometry, including the system of enclosed balconies, while introducing a renewed and distinctive building envelope composed of patterned glass layers that create optical effects inspired by the Op Art of Victor Vasarely. The outer shell, including the roof, is replaced while maintaining the building’s original form, with the existing roof terrace integrated and enhanced by a new panoramic bar. The hotel’s main entrance is relocated to Dorottya Street, forming a terrace-oriented public space toward Széchenyi Square.

SO/ Budapest is scheduled to open in 2026.
