Amherst College New Student Center & Dining Commons
The new student center and dining commons at Amherst College is a renovation and addition to the existing Merrill Science Center building on campus. The existing structural frame is reused at the lower levels while the addition at the upper floors is framed out of timber structure to meet the project’s sustainability goals. The five-story, 144,000 sq ft building will support a wide variety of student life activities including music rooms, meeting and event spaces, and dining services.
Front’s scope for the project included the design for the range of frameless glazed facades, opaque cladding ranging from timber planks and metal panels to cast-in-place concrete, and the roofing and subgrade waterproofing. Front consulted on the entire project from schematic design through construction administration.
The project is under construction.
