Richmond Water Transit Ferry Terminal

Richmond, CA, USA
Architect
Marcy Wong Donn Logan Architects

Located 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south of the Richmond downtown core, the new Ferry Terminal on Richmond’s waterfront establishes a new ferry route between the existing San Francisco Ferry Terminal and the City of Richmond. An iconic form designed to provide panoramic views of the bay and city, the terminal negotiates itself between an existing historical, architecturally distinguished assembly building, a city commissioned sculpture, and an entertainment venue.

Front was engaged to assist in the Construction Document phase with the technical design of the copper penny-colored steel fins located on the facade’s leeward side. Due to manufacturing limitations, the cold-formed, half-inch steel fins are split into three pieces across the facade and were designed to transition seamlessly from one to the next.
