This new CHANEL store in Manhattan features a unique inverted façade system whereby the mullion support system for the glass is all outboard of the enclosure, while all joints at the interior are flush-glazed. The outboard mullions are reinforced with steel to achieve an incredibly slim profile and are heat-traced to avoid ice accumulation. The 3.2m x 6m glass panels are maximized to stay within standard fabrication widths, while also achieving a simple four by four grid in elevation. The glass additionally features a distinct linear white patterning, which is achieved by an applied film on the outside surface of the glass, creating a brighter white appearance than is possible with traditional ceramic frit.
