Conceived of as a Memorial and Citizen’s Park, the 1.5 million ft2 [140,000 m2] project provides an uninterrupted extension of the city fabric into the historic site. Five buildings, each responding to climate and user needs, nestle between and under a landscape of golden rain trees, groves of bamboo, and Korean pines. The vertical walls of these buildings are a fabric of transparent glass and metal screens of varying pattern and openness. The occupiable roofs are propagated with light boxes that provide daylight to the interiors below.
