This residential tower, adjacent to the New York City Highline in Manhattan’s Chelsea district, features a pixilated patterning of textured metal panels and both fixed and operable insulated vision glass units. The reverse tapering tower form, along with the morphing texture on the metal panels, is intended to suggest billowing smoke dissipating into the sky.

Front consulted on the entire building enclosure from schematic design through construction administration. To achieve the custom and variable pattern, the 2 x 4 ft (0.6 x 1.2 m) stainless steel composite panels were CNC turret punched, creating numerous small diamond-shaped protrusions. The variable and numerous façade conditions were resolved with the help of rule-based associative digital models, developed by Front to assist in the design process and streamline shop drawings and fabrication.
