The two street-facing façades of this new condominium building, in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, are composed of a series of reflective folded vertical bands that simultaneously mirror both the street and the sky in a fragmented manner. The optical variability is enhanced by the use of 2 different glass types and the overall effect is a collage of reflections. The 8-story building includes 24 units, which total approximately 53,820 ft2 (5,000 m2). Front collaborated on the façade beginning in schematic design and completed construction documents and shop drawing phases. During design, the folded façade was rationalized, for ease-of-construction, into a unitized floor-to-floor curtain wall. Each mega-panel was shop-fabricated and glazed, including integrated operable window units.
