Times Square Visitor Center Pavilion

This free-standing pavilion is located at the Times Square Visitor Center, which resides in the renovated historic Embassy Movie Theater. The pavilion is composed of curving reflective glass panels, atop a stainless steel base, and exhibits both convex and concave geometries. Not only do the panels curve in plan, but they also gradually transition in height maintaining a constant offset from the existing sloped floor surface. During design, the laminated glass panels were rationalized into a standard 4.5 ft (1.4 m) width when flat. Six different opacifying glass colors were specified and were arranged to create a gradient of mirrored glass. Each element of glass and steel was unique and was BIM modeled for coordination prior to fabrication. This project was completed by Front as part of a design-build team, which required the system design to be fully resolved to a high level of detail, and the completion of structural calculations, shop drawings and fabrication drawings.
