The Perez Art Museum Miami, which opened in December 2013, is intended to advance the public appreciation of art and architecture in the South Florida region. Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, the new museum offers 200,000 ft² (18,581 m²) of programmable space, including 120,000 ft² (11,148 m²) of interiors; more than tripling that of the previous facility. It also incorporates 80,000 ft² (7,432 m²) of exterior program space for the display of art works, educational activities, relaxation, and dining. Three levels of art exhibition and education spaces sit on a landscaped deck, surrounded by additional landscaping and terraces. The first occupied level is set at the minimum 18 ft (5.5 m) above sea level, according to FEMA storm surge guidance. The remaining program sits under a shading canopy from which are suspended columns infused with lush vegetation. Level 01 façades employ ultra high performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) mullions, at the exterior of 14.5 x 7.5 ft (4.4 x 2.3 m) glass panels. At level 02, the system is reversed and UHPFRC mullions span 17.25 ft (5.3 m) to support the largest glazing ever tested to Miami-Dade hurricane resistance requirements.  Front collaborated on the design of these innovative systems from schematic design through the end of construction administration.
