Pendry Manhattan West Hotel

New York, NY, USA
Architect
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM)

Pendry Manhattan West Hotel is a new striking 21-story luxury hotel situated in midtown Manhattan. Part of the larger Manhattan West complex, a five building mixed-use development masterplan across eight acres in Hudson Yards, the Pendry covers a gross area of 200,500 sq ft with 164 guest rooms, retail and restaurant space, as well as a roof terrace and the distinct architecture of the Chez Zou cocktail lounge. Distinctly modern and elegant with sweeping views, the structure features unique sinuous facades adorned with ribbed curved black granite panels and curved glass, offering a new interpretation of the bay window system. The curtain wall incorporates flush awning windows for natural ventilation, and the grey-tinted glass facilitates guest room privacy and an energy efficient design.

Front consulted from schematic design through construction administration on the curved stone and glass curtain wall, the curved storefront glazing and doors, incorporating custom acid etching, the entrance canopies, the custom mechanical ventilation strategy, incorporating milled stone and aluminum louvers, and the curved, corrugated aluminum cladding.

This project won a Facade Tectonics Institute Vitruvian Award in 2023 for Outstanding New Façade in the High Rise category.
