The new courthouse at the Denver Justice Center features an expressive folded-plate curtain wall on its east elevation, which vertically extends past the roof level, cantilevering above the roof terrace and evoking the Rocky Mountain peaks beyond. The 315,000 ft2 (29,260 m2) facility provides 35 courtrooms as well as administrative and security spaces, all of which are accessed through the glazed four story atrium. The curtain wall is supported by architecturally exposed structural steel, anchored at ground level, and braced by an array of steel cables and rods. The semi-unitized system is composed of mechanically restrained, low-e coated, insulating glass units set between prominently expressed transoms. Surrounding the glazing systems throughout the building are limestone and granite cladding and cantilevering aluminum canopies. Front consulted with the design team on all components of the enclosure from schematic design through construction administration.
