2 Bryant Park

New York, NY, USA
Architect
MDEAS

2 Bryant Park, also known as 1100 Avenue of the Americas, is a 380,158 sq ft commercial building in midtown Manhattan. Uniquely positioned at the corner of Bryant Park and Sixth Avenue, this 15 story building is a prime location for office and retail use. Originally built in 1906 with six stories, an additional seven stories were added in 1925. Decades later, two additional stories were added and the building’s masonry façade was replaced with stick aluminum curtain wall comprised mostly of opaque glass spandrel panels. The building’s most recent renovation involved a façade re-clad and a new north-south through lobby which connects to the adjacent Grace Plaza.
Front’s scope included the development of a unitized curtain wall attachment system to facilitate the varying as-built conditions to the existing structure. With a generous module width of 7-‘6” to the previous 5 ft wide spacing, the new curtain wall, combined with a floor-to-ceiling vision unit, dramatically increases the amount of daylight while offering unobstructed views of Bryant Park. An ultra-high performance low-e coating allows current energy performance targets to be met while maintaining the desired level of transparency.
Front consulted on this project from design development through construction administration.
