Originally built in 1900 as a stable for Arbuckle Brothers, this former Brillo warehouse was converted into a contemporary eight-loft, two-penthouse apartment building while maintaining the existing structure’s character.
The existing 200’ long thru-block building made for deep floor plates uninhabitable for residential living. Through subtraction, courtyards were carved through the center of the building, to unlock the potential for natural air and light. A curtain wall of glass on the courtyard facade allows light deep into the large and airy units. Landscaped bridges at the second floor, as well as a ground floor courtyard visually connect the buildings and create a tranquil garden that residents can view.
Front’s collaboration on the project included shop drawing and site review of the aluminum glass curtain wall and courtyard doors during Construction Administration.
