SmartGeometry 2014 Conference

SmartGeometry (SG) is a non-profit organization focusing on the use of the computer as an intelligent design aid in Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC). It encourages collaboration between practicing AEC professionals, academics and students using computational and parametric software tools. The 2014 conference was held at Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the theme was “Urban Compaction”.  Front supported the conference by helping to provide a “cluster” called “HK_smarTOWERS”.  This cluster, co-presented by Front Associates Ramon van der Heijden and Alan Tai, drew on the ubiquity of the high rise in Hong Kong, focused on data harnessed from this typology, on its analysis and visualization, as well as its use as design driver for novel approaches to tower massing, structure and organization. Front Principal Martin Riese also gave a keynote presentation entitled “Building In Asia” which illustrated examples of Front’s work in the region.
