Memphis Art Museum Set for 2026 Opening Along the Mississippi River

Designed by Herzog & de Meuron in collaboration with Archimania, the new Memphis Art Museum is steadily advancing toward its anticipated December 2026 opening, marking a major addition to the city’s downtown riverfront. The project reimagines the museum as an open, civic-facing campus, with a building envelope defined by expansive glazing and a strong visual connection between interior galleries, public spaces, and Front Street. Positioned as both a cultural anchor and an urban connector, the design emphasizes transparency, accessibility, and engagement with the surrounding landscape, reinforcing the museum’s role as a welcoming public institution at the edge of the Mississippi River.
